Today is payday but I didn't get my $50 - minus $19 for bonds and insurance - $31.00. It's not much pay but so far I have managed to get along mainly because I have been pretty lucky playing Blackjack. Still have $100.00 in the bank and I hope to keep it there.
Am still in Kearns and things aren't going too well. Being a private isn't the easiest job in the world.
Don A. Gardner came home on furlough last night. He really looks fine in his uniform. He came from Florida on a ten day furlough. We all hope to be together on the 4th, which is Sunday.
The latest is that I will stay here at Kearns for at least another month. I am getting pretty brown under this hot June sun. Qualified on the range last Monday with 176 out of a possible 200 for expert. Used a Carbine rifle, rapid fire. Hit 23 bulls in 40 shots. Hope to get a furlough before I leave for overseas.
